On 24th August 2017, Jio started their booking procedure of India’s cheapest smartphone i.e JioPhone. The booking was open till 26th of August and then company stopped taking more orders because their target was completed by that time. In this two days time, a total of 6 million Jio Phones was booked combining both online method and offline retail. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani had announced at the time of unveiling the handset that company aims to deliver 5 million units per week.
Now as the booking was done the next question is when we will get the device in hand? What will be the specs? So here we will try to answer those.
At present, both the MyJio app and an IVR number do not provide much information on the Jio Phone delivery status. However, with September 21 now confirmed by Jio sources as the date for start of deliveries, the wait might just become a little easier. Of course, it is likely the deliveries will be made in phases, depending on how early you were able to place the order. Technically the phone is free, though customers have to pay Rs. 1,500 as security deposit – Rs. 500 at the time of booking which is done already and the remaining Rs. 1,000 at the time of picking it up.
Reliance has also told that Jio phones will be given only from the Jio retail stores or digital express stores near you. No phone will be delivered to your home. There have been some cases that somebody called in name of reliance and asked for your address to deliver the Jio Phone and they have also taken Rs. 1,000 from the customers. Be aware of these kinds of frauds.
